Rice Mechanization Center
Meet El Dyba - Kafr El sheikh - Egypt

Introduction

The rice Mechanization project in A.R. Egypt ( RMP ) was launched in August 1981 through the mutual agreement between the two Governments of Egypt and JAPAN. The project site was tentatively set at Kallin Experimental station in Kafr El sheikh governorate, until March - 1984.

In conjunction with the RMP the Japanese Government granted the facility complex of RICE MECHANIZATION CENTER ( RMC) to Etgyptian   government to enrich the capacity  of the said project

because of the limited capacity at Kallin, ninty five feddans in the state farm of Meet El Dyba was transferred to the RMC. and the construction works of RMC started in February 1983 and completed March - 1984.

The total cost of the construction was 1400 Million yen ( about 6 million US dollars.)

Objectives

The following program will be continued at RMC to establish the most efficient mechanized rice farming system under the condition of Egypt.

1 - Experimental study on mechanized rice       farming.
2 - Economic study on mechanized rice           farming.

3 - Establishment of mechanized rice farming system.
4 - Training for mechanized rice farming.
5 - Demonstration activities of mechanized rice farming.
Organization

Experimental Field

The 1 st infrastructural work of RMC experimental fields at Met El Dyba was done in parallel with the center construction for research, field training and demonstration.

The total cost of the work was about 57 million yen ( about 0.25 million US dollars ).

Scale of Experimental field.

    A - block --------------------- 32,16 feddans
    B - block --------------------- 19.77 feddans
    C - block --------------------- 21.69 feddans
    D - block --------------------- 09.04 feddans
         Total ---------------------- 82.66 feddans

Satellite Field

Since the mechanized rice cultivation system with transplanter has besen established successfully in perevious phase in R.M.C. demonstration of the system, as well as the

accomplishment study of them in varios region of Nile delta have been started newly as a second step of the project so as to approach more closer to the farmers.

By this motivation five locations have been selected as satellite field in Dommyat, Gharbia, Bihera, and Kafr El Shiekh governorate, and the system is being constantly demonstrated there.

    1 - Serw satellite field.
    2 - Gimeza satellite field.
